Chimney Repointing in Brooklyn, NY
Brooklyn chimney crowns, liners, flashing and full repointing — including water-damaged brownstone chimneys.
- Chimney crown rebuild & seal
- Stainless flue liner replacement
- Flashing repair around the stack
- Full brick repointing above the roofline

Brooklyn chimneys take more freeze-thaw punishment than any other part of your masonry — they're exposed on all four sides, capped by a crown that cracks first, and ignored until water shows up on the top-floor ceiling. We rebuild Brooklyn chimneys from the crown down, common in Park Slope, Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights brownstones.
What a Brooklyn chimney inspection covers
We inspect: crown for cracks and saturation, brick courses for spalling and open joints, flashing for separation from the roof, flue liner for cracks or absence (many pre-1950 chimneys are unlined), and cap for animal/debris intrusion. Most jobs are a combination of crown rebuild + repointing the top 4–8 feet.
Crown rebuild + repointing
A proper Brooklyn chimney crown is a poured concrete cap with a 2" overhang and a drip kerf — not a smear of mortar. We saw-cut the failed crown, rebuild it to spec, then repoint the brick courses below. On exposed Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights chimneys we recommend a penetrating siloxane sealer post-repoint.
Liner and flashing add-ons
If we open the flue and find a cracked terracotta liner or no liner at all, we install a UL-listed stainless steel liner sized to your appliance. Flashing repair — replacing the step flashing and counter-flashing where the chimney meets the roof — is a common add-on quoted separately.
